Emergency Alert System TEST September 10th, 2009

Ferrum College will be conducting a test of its emergency alert system on Thursday, September 10th. The drill will include a test of several campus emergency components including the college’s mass notification system, ferrume2campus, and the campuswide siren system.

The college’s siren system is stationed on the north side of campus and will sound for exactly 1 minute. In the event of an actual emergency situation that day, the campus and surrounding community would hear the siren for three minutes or longer.
The sirens will be coupled with a test of the College’s mass notification messaging system, which was implemented in April of 2007. The system, called ferrume2campus, enables Ferrum to send important campus information to students, staff, parents, and faculty wherever they are. In addition to cell phones, ferrume2campus enables the college to send messages to users via web pages, RSS, PDA, e-mail, text pager, google, AOL, or My Yahoo page.

In addition to the campus siren and mass notification system, the college plans to also send test messages via campus e-mail, the campus website, www.ferrum.edu, and its phone information line, 540-365-5555.
